The finish looks kind of rusty to me but not reddish like rust. They are indoor fixtures. I think it needs more than polishing. Any helpful ideas? I would prefer to do it myself if possible. Thanks fellow rehabbers!

I refinished some brass fixtures from an antique Chinese Trunk using a combination method. First, I used Brasso which removed a lot of the surface dirt. Then, I used my Dremel and the little jar of paste Dremel sells that cleans brass. I used the fine wire brush, then the buffing wheel and with patience they looked like new.

Try brass cleaner first. Most old door hardware is brass. It turns reddish brown as it ages and oxidizes.
