We have a water source heat pump for heating and cooling (extremely efficient). On really cold winter days we also use a corn stove (similar to a pellet stove but uses corn as fuel).

both. electricity and natural gas. when the power goes out the natural gas is tied into a generator with battery back-up to run for 48 hours. the systems for a home cost 2 grand. its well worth it.

Electricity. Although at this time of year, the sun heats the place up like an oven so we use a load of electricity to try and cool it to a reasonable temperature!
