with a giant asteroid i guess.however, i dont think that the likes of bill gates or the president of some rich country will perish among the ashes. i think, humanity will live on- underground or in deep space.

What we have here is an open ended question with four limited (Hollywood) answers. Two of the answers (meteor and volcano) allow for "physical chance" endings. War and aliens, point to "orchestrated chance" endings caused by beings of one kind or another.
The big suggestion today is that IT (civilization or whatever IT is?) will end by global warming!!! The idea has some merit; but is really kept alive for its vote and grant potential for political and scientific busy work.
We can argue that only parts of any one civilization still exist. I say we no longer have, nor will we ever again have, any civilization worth talking about. The so-called global village, one world government, blah, blah, etc. will never be a civilization. Any world wide unity, sought by man, can only be brought into play by force; be it religious, political, legal or military.
Answers:
(((Civilization ends by no longer fulfilling the definition of being a civilization.)))
((("Crispy Critter" answers any question about the end of the world, the demise of mankind or the result of global warming.)))

I think it'll be an ecological or pollutive disaster, like global warming, acid rain, nuclear fallout, disease, and/or worse. A world war wouldn't by itself be enough to actually change how our civilization functions without one of the above (like nukes or biological warfare), but simply allowing industry to spread at the current pace would be enough too. I doubt a natural disaster will happen earlier than one of our own making, but it might be the last straw triggering our downfall.
After every golden age comes a dark age, but after every dark age comes a new enlightenment, so I'm not too worried. There're too many people for humanity itself to die out.
