How would the earth be effected if the moon wasnt there?

If the moon wasn't there, the Earth would not be able to sustain life -- because there would be no seasons and the earth would probably not spin the way that it does.

It is believed that the Moon was formed when a giant mass of rock smashed into Earth. This collision was so strong that it knocked about a sixth of the combined mass into space. These pieces eventually cooled and came together forming the moon.

In the mean time, the collision knocked the Earth off its axis and caused it to start rotating. Earth heated up so much that it became molten rock. The surface eventually cooled and became that planet as we know it -- with seasons and 24 hour days.
