I thought the "kind" in mankind was the one that means similarity. Not being nice. Did I have it wrong all along?

no because the world has balances and often what "man" views as kindness some one else won't see it the same way. if you were speaking about individuals then yes a "man" could find kindness from another "man" just like theirself.

I thought we had abandoned the word "mankind" in favor of the term "humanity" since it is more gender-inclusive.

I am surprised at your question.I come across a lot of kindness all the time.But you must talk to the common people not the elite.

Not so long as religion rules are minds. There's no such thing as 'natural' kindness when your feared into it. Religon is a fraud!
