yeah just go to AAA and ask them for an international drivers license. its only good for one year buts its considered an actual drivers license internationally in most countries.

U know i haven't been out of the country since 98, but a lot changes...china is not 1 of my strong suits but i do believe that i was told or read that a US liscense is not enough, i think u need to get a temporary number or something, NOT SURE, though try your local DMV or a good travel guide for buisness, always chapters about that stuff, only advice i can give you is if they have those capsule hotels like in japan, don't bother unless u like sleeping in a coffin.

You need to get an international driver's license. You can get those at the DMV. I don't know how much they cost though.
