Why would someone who makes millions of dollars run for a job that only pays a fraction of that? and don't say civic duty, or a sense of patriotism.

Power, just like you trying to tell me not to answer civic duty and sense of patriotism. I can assure you there are many well off people that wish to service this government and not just this present administration. It's not always about the dollar.

people want to get rid of their improtant life. maybe their previous job didn't allow many authorizing decisions. he/she might want more power even though it mean less money.
