I am creating a mosaic of small pictures on a canvas. But one of the pictures is very detailed. I will get a print out of what I want from the internet, cut it out and paste it on the canvas. What can I use that is clear to cover the small image on the piece of paper? Then I will paint something on top of that.

If you mean cover temporarily, or cover with a sheet of something, then what you need is called acetate film. It's available at almost any art supply store.

If you're looking for something to paint on, which will dry clear, then you need something called acrylic gel medium, also available at any good art supply store. It paints on, can be layered to any thickness, and you can paint over it with acrylic paint.

Use Rice Pasper to copy your image, but be very careful not to press hard because it will tear, but you can see right through it.
