I read that a vaccine against HPV, the virus responsible for cervical cancer and genital warts, will soon be available, and doctors think it will be most effective when give to girls 11-12 years old. Would you vaccinate your daughter?

You gave the answer yourself... "doctors think it will be most effective when give to girls 11-12 years old".

If a doctor tells you so, then do it.

No the CDC came out recently and said that they want to make it a regular vaccination for girls. When they made this claim the age was around 12-13 yrs old. Yes it would be effective and the right age since girls want to have sex younger and younger now a days. However it isn't official yet but look for it in the future as a regular vaccination for girls.

Of course. She will go and have sex no matter what you say. I think the shot is a wonderful idea. All this controversy over this is totally unnecessary. Get her the shot and tell her it's to prevent cancer. (you are not lying to her, just withholding information.) She doesn't have to know the full story unless she already knows (and what 11 year old watches the news anyway.) Wouldn't you like to be able to prevent a form of cancer in your child? I would.

Yes, no doubt,, its fully tested and I would want my daughter to have that protection.
I was one of the first people through the infertility program at our teaching University and have 2 children as a result.
I also had cervical cancer cells due to chlamydia that my now ex husband brought home to me.. I would definately innoculate because I have seen way too many friends die from ovarian cancer due to this very virus.
