is there something man might learn how to do someday that would be better if we left it alone? how would it affect the world if we had this knowledge? why do you think we shouldn't have this ability?

true artificial intelligence because computers will realize that we are the weak link and the do not make mistakes as we do, they calculate every single detail we would be ALL DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! especially if they became self sufficient also, they would not need us anymore!!!!! SCARY???????

I agree with the previous answerers. Some of these frightening technologies already exist (nuclear, biological and chemical weapons) and others (e.g., a time machine) are almost too disturbing to contemplate the full ramifications of. Mind you, time travel may prove impossible (scientists don't seem to agree on this) but even the potential to manipulate history is troubling.

Do you recall what Oppenheimer said after the first successful atomic bomb test? He quoted Vishnu, the Hindu protector and preserver of worlds: "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds." And then he broke down and cried... I don't think I have anything to add to that.
