a) Derive a general formula for the volume and surface area of a right pyramid whose base is a 'n'-sided regular polygon with each side 'a' and vertical height 'h'.

b) Then derive a formula for the distance of a plane from the vertex such that the plane is parallel to its base which divides the pyramid into two equal volumes.

[Hint: The plane parallel to the base which divides the pyramid into two equal volumes does not pass through the mid point of its height.]
