I hope it doesn't happen soon with all this nice weather we are having and with football to watch. But if an asteroid was on the horizon they should tell us to give us the opportunity to find a nice cave somewhere to chill out wearing some king of dust suit eating crackers. I guess what will happen is there will be numerous committees, made up of officials that are guaranteed a spot in an old mine in Wales anyway. By the time they conclude not to tell us, it is leaked by a mole, panic ensues, and web sites selling survival packs (by one get one free) jam the rest of the internet for people who want to say goodbye to loved ones. It will be discussed on daytime tv under such titles as "my boyfriend won't marry me before the world ends", "how to stay happy and motivated when all around you are losing their heads." No one will turn in for work and this site will be (if not jammed by aforementioned bit) full of questions on where do you think it will land, what food is good to store, how do you survive an asteroid winter......etc etc Think I will get a drink....hic

If there was an asteroid heading on a collision course with earth I think the government would send big pete strapped to a rocket to intercept and smash it with a hammer.

Personally I think if there was a way to save and protect people, then yes let us prepare. If there was no hope, then by golly let me be happy to the end. The chaos that would be created by advance notification would be worse than the actual event.

I don't think it could be kept secret. Have you seen the film "The Day After Tomorrow"?
I would prefer not to know. Couldn't bear the thought of my children dying.

I would prefer it if they didnt tell us, that way we would carry on with our lives happily and when it does strike it will all be over in a matter of seconds and we wont even know it so it cant hurt us really!

I wouldn't trust anything they told me anyway, so I wouldn't panic either way. I'd like to see them try and organise an attempt to stop it though - can you imagine the paperwork?

We are not too far from a major breakdown in society; what would it matter in either case?
