Garden slugs creep in your residence.
While you're sleeping they enter your anus and impregnate you against your will.
They brainwash your spermatozoa making them leave your balls to travel to your skull.
The slugs consume your balls and take residence there while they tell the spermatozoa which part of your brain to operate.
They kidnap your body and actions for experimentation for planetary study.

Slugs are a very important part of the soil's ecosystem, unfortunately, they are totally unaware of which plants they should eat and which they should not. Before agriculture and horticulture, it didn't matter what they ate so they just recycled whatever they came across. This recycling consisted of digesting waste matter and returning it to the soil, eventually the slug died and either rotted down due to the action of other micro-organisms or got eaten by other creatures, birds, hedgehogs etc
When they finally set up a college for slugs and they start to realise their purpose in life and their relationship with other animals and after passing their O levels in recycling, they will be very important and useful creatures..

I'm think you have your critters mixed up a bit. the only critter without a purpose is the flea. not even part of the food chain. however, the garden slug is part of the food chain and the main meal for a great deal of wildlife around the world. a staple for rodents, birds, some reptiles and a major source of protean for humans in remote parts of the rain forrest. Just like the way we fatten up our cows & pigs before we make burgers or sausage, the little slug just nibbles away until something higher up on the food chain makes burgers and sausage out of him. It's main diet is damaged or dying plant material. So he cleans up the the mess, while plumping himself out for the next mouse or scrub jay that comes along. the flea improves nothing & is not a sourse of nutrition for any form of critter.

Not all creatures have purposes, just a chance of life! The purposes of Slugs are obviously to eat rotting vegitation and for higher lifeforms to eat them!

i dont believe all cretures have a purpose...birds do eat slugs so yes part of the food chain....but what about a flea?

It all depends on what you are referring to as a garden slug...In your particular case there are several critters that would fall into that category...they would do a number of things from eating other smaller critters and their byproducts produce nutrients for the soil to allow plants to grow better, or veggies, or fruits...or they could be necessary to burrow through the ground to allow air and water to permeate the ground easier to make the plants grow easier and produce more veggies, fruit, other plants etc....you do the math...there are 100's of reasons for every living thing to be on this planet.....now humans is another subject altogether...
