If you mean that you found one in the wild, and want to keep it, I think you should check about any local laws first, or you could discover it's endagered or something and get in trouble for having it. Otherwise, if you're thinking about getting a turtle, I would suggest going to your local pet store and asking where you can find one. Where I'm from we are allowed to buy red eared turtles from various pet stores.

Terrapins are legal, turtle and / or tortoises depend on the species. If you co to the CITES (Convention for the International Trade in Endandgered Species) website and type in Turtle, you will see a list of endagered species. Assuming you turtle isn't there, then it's yours to buy. If it is then you (if you bought it) and the petshop could get in to a whole world of trouble.

In America, it should be legal virtually everywhere to have a turtle as a pet. If you live in another country,? Probably.

It's okay to keep turtles as pets, but you have to check your state laws. I have five turtles at home. They are cute and are really interesting creatures. But if you are considering feng shui, you have to know more about your natural elements, whether you belong to fire, water, metal, wood or earth before you can decide the number of turtles you should keep.

As a pet store owner, in many states it IS illegal to have turtles unless they are at least 5" in diameter and sometimes need to be for scientific or teaching purposes. However each state differes-this is due to the chance of samonella. You can check with yur state but in my dealings with the game commissions and stuff, unless someone turns you in, (which donesnt usually happen) you are ok. Just remember to WASH your hands after handling them---The law doesn't make sense as we ship thousands over seas like the little ones that we used to buy at Woolworth's but now is illegal--you figure it lol

yes they sell turtles and if you found it on the road it is still legal. but if you found it on the road then check for webbed feet cause then you know it needs to be in water also put a rock in the water so it can come up for air sometimes.and remember after handling it wash your hands cause they carry bacteria.
