A nuclear conflict caused by the policies of the Bush Administration.
A religious war between Christians and Jews and their long time nemesis... the Muslims which has been forced on the rest of the world by the Bush Administration
A Race war between white and dark skinned people which is being perpetrated by the Bush Administration in the name of "Terrorism" and "Immigration".
You can theorize about meteors and floods and mega-quakes and Yellowstone and the effects of Global Warming... but those are just POSSIBLE causes... the Bush Administration is a PROBABLY cause.

1. The robots take over because they think humans can't be trusted with their own survival (Like in the movie version of I,Robot)
2. Aliens decide to destroy the planet because left to it's own devices humanity will destroy the universe by getting limitless energy from another dimension which causes each interacting dimension to become more like the other thus making the sun explode, if I remember correctly(Like in the in the book "The Gods Themselves")

A gigantic meteorite could hit the earth. The sun could expand and burn the earth to a crisp. Chicken Little says the sky could fall in too. Another star could expand, sucking up the whole universe. Refer to Chicken Little again.
