Saftey glass IS glass while plexi is a plastic. The diff. from regular glass is that it's really two sheets of glass with a thin plastic layer in the center, like car windows, holds the pieces together rather than having big shards when hit!
There is also hurricaine and burgular proof glasses, I think they are coated with plastic. I know you can buy window films for this too.
Ask someone at your home center about it, some one should be able to helkp you aout!

Plexiglass is a trademark for a light weather proof glass but I do not think you could call it safety glass. Safety glass is that which does not shatter on impact by whatever means. Windscreens of motor cars are generally safety glass in that when hit by something it merely shatters into minute pieces and not into large shards which could cause severe injury. Your glass merchant should be able to advise you correctly.......

Securit glass is a glass that has been kilned so that it will be smashed in crumble-sized pieces if it breaks, and so no large pieces can fall on a person and stab him. There are also triple layered glasses, the middle layer being a membrane that would hold the pieces in place even if it breaks, so that it doesn't fall on people. Plexiglass is plastic, it is not really glass.

Plexiglas is made of plastic and is not suitable for a storm door. "Safety glass" is made of plate glass with a reinforcing clear film in side of it to keep it from shattering into dangerous shards on impact with an object. It's kind of like car windshield glass for your storm door. Don't use anything else.

when regular glass breaks, it can (and does) make large knife-like shards - safety glass is designed to break into small granules when it is shattered, thus making it "safe" - plexiglass is basically a plastic and is prone to scratches, and does not retain its transparent qualities - lexan is a better plastic glass - but is still prone to discoloring, fading and scratches -
