desalinisation, yeah right... just another stupid political decision that's going to wreck the eco-system of Kurnell.
If you want to know how much water Sydney has for instance, check out the Sydney water website. It will tell you how much water is in the dams. For those in Southern Sydney we run off the Woronora dam which doesn't have any supply problems (yey!). The rest of Sydney runs off Prospect which has been slowly going down. Once people get there act together it should be fine though.
Other places throughout Australia have their own dams which can be checked out in a similar fashion. A lot of rural areas will run off water tanks for most of their water needs.
Some places are really hard pressed for water and are put on severe water restrictions. Gosford not too far from Sydney is one of these.
But no the water won't run out. The government isn't short-sighted enough to let that happen. That being said the water wouldn't run out anyway, it's just distribution of it that'll be a problem.

Our dams are low. This country is surrounded by water - the government should be installing water desalination plants, but of course there is never enough money.
To answer your question, I don't know how much water we have, and I hope we never run out of it.

Australia has about a cupful.

And America has about a cupful too.

Australia might run out, beucase its so hot there they might drink their cupful quicker. However, someone might refill their cup for them too. You'll just have to wait to find out for sure.
