The way it sounds is that the coil for the plug is either grounding out somewhere (the plug wire is old and has a crack), or the fuel delivery is having problems.

If it is the coil, then, it would spark at times, but not others. You can find out the whether it is or not by watching the wire, coil and spark plug closely in a dark area. If you see a grounding out spark, there is your problem.

If it is a fuel problem, there is either a crimp in the fuel line, a problem with the sump system (I don't know if there is a fuel pump for your cart or not), or the carb is damaged and flooding the engine with too much fuel which would cause it to die.

As you say that the plug is wet after starting, either it is the spark that dies before being able to start the engine, or that the fuel is being dumped due to a faulty carb.

If it's a 2 stroke, is the fuel/oil mixture correct? Maybe the ignition timing is off. It has spark to the plug, but is the working end of the plug sparking? 2 strokes are a little notorious for being rough on spark plugs, especially older engines. Maybe plug gap is wrong. Other than that, you got me. Be willing to bet a new, properly gapped plug might work.
