Identification notch on the end of the rocker shaft used with non-adjustable arms must be on the top and point toward the front of the engine. This is necessary for proper lubrication of the rocker arms. Rocker shafts used with adjustable rocker arms will have a small flat spot in the same location. It must also point up and to the front of the engine.

I not real sure what you ask; are you saying the "Push Rods"? They the "Shafts" that come from the Hydraulic Lifter and push the "Rockers" up and down. If this it; then I believe they can go in either direction. Do they look the same on both ends? It just a tube with a hole through it for oil to go. Hope this it and it helps you. This old school and I trying to see this in my head, sorry.
If, it the Shaft the Rockers mounted on you may need to see where the rockers line up with the oil holes, if, this the large Hollow Tube that has Springs between the Rockers. Then you can hold it over the Valve Stem to figure out which way they go to line everything up. It may go either way too, but, I not sure, would need to actually see it. All I can really tell you.
