As a rule I would agree with you. You have to admit some of the questions that are asked here are so ridiculously stupid that you cant help from commenting on them. Sometimes in a rude way.

I cannot agree with you more. Even if some questions are just silly the answer must understand that the asker may be quite serious about it. He should respond to it flippantly making a joke of the questioner.I have noticed that in some answers the answer is more ignorant than the questioner either he does not understand the query or does not know the answer but wants to conseal it and does it by recourse to derison. It is not, as it were that the person who reads the question is bound to answer on pain of death--as in the Questions of Yaksha in the epic Mahabharat. Nor are computers fitted with a mechanism which secretly records such readings and then counts them against the questioner. If the question is really silly-for you-just smile pityingly and pass on.

Since answering questions here is an opportunity to express one self anonymously without impunity you will have many answer knowing that they will not be called to the carpet. And as we all know out of the abundance of the heart the mouth will speak, albeit in type, same thing. And also where your treasure is there will you find you heart. People give stupid, rude, mean answers because people are stupid , mean and rude. Face to face they will try to prove otherwise but even then most are so full of their own self importance they aren't worth knowing. There is a nice personal reward in all of this though. Tomorrow you get to wake up and still get to be who you are. Wonderfully created to Love and receive love in return, and tomorrow when they wake up they are stuck with having to be who they are and they have their own reward of being mean, stupid and ugly in heart.

I think the point system is a bit of a problem - it's great that people are encouraged to give answers by awarding points, but some people take advantage of this and just write nonsense.
I like the 'best answer' points that an asker can award - perhaps the asker could be responsible for rewarding more points in this way to encourage sensible responses.

The freedom to be mercurial in my answers (foolish or serious) is a source of amusement to me, and in my opinion makes this exercise worthwhile. I'm not a rules kinda guy, I like the absurd as well as the thoughtful and I've gleaned wisdom from the bottom of the barrel as well as from the cream. The important thing to my way of thinking is to enjoy this format, find the humour; ignore the things that could offend. It works for me at any right. I do agree with you that rudeness serves no purpose but I respect the offenders right to be rude because it ensconces my rights to free expression, that's the cost of freedom; you must tolerate those that you find distasteful as they must tolerate you. It all works out I think. Thank you for this opportunity to put forward my opinion.

I always considered questions as a way of learning and thought there were no stupid questions until I came into Yahoo's Q&A. I give stupid answers to the PUNKS who show no respect for others with the crapp they enter in the site. They are nothing but hair-brained idiots who do nothing but create havock among good people enjoying themselves. I think that coincides with your comment with your Question. Doesn't it?

A stupid question might offend someone. If those people doesn't like stupid answers, then they should not post a stupid question in the first hand.

Probably for the same reason so many ask stupid questions?
Questions that can easily be answered by searching google,
or better yet all the questions about pee pee's and wee wee's.
Amazing what the youth of this nation has become.
