Inswing is a ball (normally newball) which comes into the right handed batsman that is pitched let us say outside the offstump but comes into the stumps. You have to grip the ball with index and centre finger on the seam and try to hit the seam. Reverse swing happens in the air when the ball has shine on one side while the other side has less shine as happens naturrally or intentionally as the pakistan pacemen of yester years did.

The basic kind of swing or inswing is bowled with a relatively new ball. Bowlers do give in their best to shine the ball. If the shiny side is kept on the outside, or facing the offside of a right had batsman, the new ball swings in. If the shiny side is kept inside or facing the leg side of the right hand batsman the ball swings out. The seam position is also of a vital importance here. While swinging out make sure that the ball comes out of your hand with the seam facing the first slip fielder. While inswinging the ball, the seam shall face the leg slip. Coming to reverse swing, the opposite happens. This happens only after the ball gets old. Bowlers keep shining one side while the other side gets rough. This is when reverse swing starts. After the ball getting rough considerably on one side the bowler has to make sure that the other side is smooth and shiny. Now in this condition, if the shiny side is facing in and the ball is bowled, instead of going out normally, the ball would swing in. Similarly, if the ball is bowled with shiny side out, the ball will outswing. Hence, when the ball is old and rough on one side and smooth and shiny on the other, it behaves opposite of what it does when new. This is call reverse swing. In achieving reverse swing pace is one major factor. The ball reverses only after reaching atleast 120kmph.

More relevantly, which has a champion bowling lineup, and which has a bunch of pie chuckers? Can anyone seriously see India bowling the Australians out twice? And have their batsmen score enough runs to win (on anything other than a totally dead track)?? ps Aissies currently 77/0, and India bowling Ganguly and Harbajhan (QED)
