Dreams are just your brain sorting through ideas and organising them. Although we have a long history of interpretation, unfortunately the reality of it is much less interesting.
Sometimes people see something happen and they say... but I dreamed that last night. The reality is that you probably dreamed 100 different scenarios for what you thought might happen the next day, it's just your brain's way of getting ready for any eventuality. You don't remember most of this of course, you usually only remember a dream if you wake up in the middle of it and break the REM cycle. If your brain recognises that a scenario that you've already played out in your head actually happens it jumps to the front of your consciousness, so that you can possibly use that information.
It's not really that you had a premonition, although if something is worrying you, and you constantly think about it, you can be making it more likely to happen. This happens because the thing that is worrying you stays close to the surface of your consciousness and you will react every time you hear anything that is related to it. This often causes the event or concern to happen much faster, while many things you weren't concerned about don't eventuate, and you never think of them again.

Dreams are thought of to be a way to keep the brain occupied, or still busy while the body recouperates. Our senses are mostly shut down during this time, so we do not dream of lying in bed mostly, but of things we have already experienced, some kind of collage of our lives, or a certain time. Freud blieved dreams served as a means for us to get over the repression from our superego, which is here internal conflict starts from.

The short answer is no. Dreams are not psychic or supernatural events--they are biological. While we sleep, our brain doesn't. It's active all the time. During sleep, brain cells are constantly "firing" and triggering emotions and images and memories. These brain cell firings are completely random and chaotic. Our mind tries, as it always does, to make some sense out of the chaos and creates a kind of story out of all the diverse images and emotions being randomly triggered. That's why our dreams are often so weird and nonsensical. Hope this helps.

Dreaming can be caused by the events in your daily life or random thoughts of your subconscious.
I kind of think that there could be something to the dreams linking to the future as the Native Americans say, but I have not experienced that myself.

We dream to sort out things that are happening in our lives. I dont doubt that dreams can also be premonitions of the future, but it is not very common. It's off the topic, but, what we experience in our dreams, our brain perceives as being real. So, to our brains, there is no difference between reality and dreaming.

While I can't explain why exactly we dream, I do know that dreams have nothing to do with the future. Dreams have to do with your hopes/fears and conflicts that you are dealing with at the moment. Dont' worry about bad dreams, its just your subconsious at work.

in my opinion, no. you can personally believe that your dreams have something to do with the future the same way you can believe in fate. however, i believe, and scientists say, that dreams are generally just firing synapses in the brain. i don't know the exact chemistry though.
