Murphy's law (Sod's law) is a popular adage in Western culture developed in rocket-sled tests in the late 1940's, which broadly states that things will go wrong in any given situation, if you give them a chance. "If there's more than one way to do a job, and one of those ways will result in disaster, then somebody will do it that way." It is most accurately formulated as"Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong" , per researcher Nicholas T. Spark, author of the four part serialized article Why Everything You Know About Murphy’s Law is Wrong[1].

Most common examples:
- If the toast drops, the chances of it landing butter-side down is directly proportionate to the value of the carpet.
- If you're not sure whether the lane you just turned into was a one-way, then it most probably is.
- Whenever anyone says: "Things can't possibly be worse", it will start raining.
- Million to one chances crop up nine times out of ten.
Basically, it's the most humorous and cruel form of irony.

it isn't actually a law, just a "superstition." basically says if something can go wrong, in the worst way, it will.
