Hmm, I think Miss Dickinson would probably regret that her "works make [you] be shaking."

However, Dickinson is, in my opinion, the quintessential poet.

Her poems are self-contained and unburdened with perfect beauty. While Whitman and Frost were both American poets of more controversial standing, Dickinson is more refined.

I would compare her writing to that of English poet Thomas Gray, whose total compilation of works amounted to less than a thousand lines, but has survived the ages of men and poesy with remarkable prominence.

Dickinson craft is utterly flawless. Even her deference from proper meter and rhyme is cultivated with ease of genius.

Although many American poets have lived and died, I can think of none more worthwhile than Emily Dickinson.

Surreal verse...

Emily Dickinson represents to me, one of the finest moments in American poetry.

Her poetry, couched in a peculiar ...even eminently rebellious style is suffused with picturesque imagery and unforgettably stirring simplicity.

She reminds me of the finest works in the romanticist style of Byron, Keats and Browning.

I often get into the same mood I do when I read Shakespeare's "Under the Greenwood Tree".

She's the perfect example of what happens to a talented artist when he/she is shackled by society's demands - either they go insane due to their hyper sensitivity or they retract from the world (especially so with women poets).

They make me be shaking too. In fact I've been a shaker for years.
