Honestly it is better not lose it in the first place. It is an uphill task regaining trust. First step is to apologize and express genuine remorse. Then go to work by never slipping up again.

Trust is never gained back into a relationship, once it is destroyed. What you do now is, mend the relationship, by talking. Then realize from that point on, the person can't be trusted. That you will always wonder is he lying. Take my advice from someone who is smart, people in General, can't be trusted. So what do you do? You just do whatever it is that makes YOU happy. The trick is to find someone with morals and values, who probably will lie and cheat less.
