Very good question! I think it is because God is someone that makes the rules not them. They don't care for it when somone tells them they can't do what they want to do. And God does not bet His whole paycheck on the Worlds Cup lose it and still expect his spouse to snuggle and huggle and go out an sell her blood to pay the carpayment on his car.

Haha, I'm passionate about God more than I am about soccer!
I do like soccer, but I like God more. :D
But perhaps, sports transcends cultures, age or religion. Soccer is a one common game that everyone can agree to. All you need is a ball and a field. That's all!
As for God, we have all sorts of opinions and controversies. There are those who don't believe in God. There are those who believe in God but different gods and goddesses. Even among Christian Groups are seperated by tiny little differences in what they teach. Sadly...

Your generalizing there- not all men are more passionate about sports than God. Yes I love sports but I love God even more.

Because people see the return for passion of soccer greater than the return of passion of God. People cheer their favorite team, win or loose, they enjoy the game. People worship and pray to God according to the teachings of religion, and get nothing back.

They are not totally religious!Soccer is at craze among European men!Maybe they have faith in God but they have more time watching soccer than going to church or preaching about God,because it is their favorite sport and passion or interest!Maybe soccer is big deal for them because they are sports enthusiast and it gives them excitement and enjoyment! I think sports is better than drugs and crimes,so if we cant lick them we have to join them!

People kill for god. They riot and commit vandalism for soccer. Think again about who's more passionate.

learning about God takes intelligence, patience and time. Soccer you just turn on the TV and it does the thinking for you.

Because when the watch soccer, all they do is yell at the screen, or the players telling them what to do, and when it comes to God, they can't tell him what to do.
