I'm American and 27 yrs. My Mom told me to NOT tell anyone I date I want to adopt from India because she said they'll think I'm "coo coo." To me, I don't see what the problem is because it's part of my goals for the future. Quite frankly, I'm proud to allow people to know of my interest with India since not many people think twice about it. Some people do find other cultures to be interesting as well. Is there a problem with this? Thanks...

I dont know why your mom says adopting from India is a 'coo coo' thing to do..:)...Is it becaue of India or is it because your mom doesnt want you to go and tell your date something that can be decided later on? What if something like this scares away your date?

think you should DEFINITELY tell the person, if not on the first date then soon. Here's why... because that's what you want to do in life, and what happens if you keep on dating this person, you grow attached to each other, you start to consider marriage, and then you tell him about your plan to adopt from India and he says, "No way am I raising some other guy's child."? You want to date people who have the same values as you and would be supportive of your life plans. If I were you I would bring it up casuaully during one of the first few dates . Maybe you could have an envelope with some info about adopting from India, and it just happens to be in your purse, and as you reach into your purse to grab your chapstick or something during dinner, it falls out. You say, "Oh I forgot I had this, I grabbed it out of the mailbox on my way out. What is it? Oh, just some info about adopting a child from India. I definitely am planning on doing that. No, not right now, but someday... Wanna see?"
Good luck!

yeah buddy, it's not so much because YOU want to adopt from india, but that any chick/guy (not exactly sure what you are lol) you tell that is going to automatically assume that you're talking about marrying them and then adopting kids from india, and that could come off as a little odd. better to wait for a little later in the relationship

I think it's fine, a perfect topic to keep the conversation interesting. I think it may just be your Mom that is having a problem with it.
