Opposite of Theist (one who believes in the idea of God).

A person who believes in deities, that's a god or gods is called a Theist and one who does not share that belief is called an Atheist.
To be an Atheist doesn't require an active disbelief in God or Gods it just means we don't share others belief in God or Gods, there's a subtle but big difference.
A lot of people misunderstand this and think all Atheists are against God or actively don't believe in God...God just isn't even on the radar screen for some of us Atheists God is entirely the object of other peoples fixation and because there is no evidence for God other than scriptural hearsay and the merely anecdotal it doesn't merit considering any further... God is fiction not fact...
Because God is fiction he can hardly be an object of hate for any Atheist despite the many accusations that Atheists hate God that we hear from some Theists.

An ATHEIST stands for a person who does not believe in the doctrines of any religion and lives life as it comes to him.

people think that an atheist is a non-believer of any religion. In my views an atheist is only a non-believer of nonbelievable 20 centuries old scriptures or sayings of any religion, which makes a person merely a coward in the name of sin, Jesus and God, by constant brain washing of the people by the so called religious representatives, priests and others.

An atheist is a person who believes in no religion though many times people try to associate it as one, but thats like calling anarchist a politician

One that does not believe in a deity. Like me, a Buddhist. You can still be spiritual and have good morales and not believe in God. I feel atheists get a bad rap.

keep church and state separated sadly it seems that the right wing people are trying to do just that; turn this country from a democracy into a theocracy

It is a person who does not believe in God, Heaven, Jesus or the bible. They do not believe there is an after life.
