As an example to other people about sacrifice and love.
The sad part is, it wasn't necessary. The other sad part is, from my opinion, that we took it literally and not figuratively. All those deaths and persecutions.
Everyone says that God is love but then they are upset when people are different from them, like gays, murderers, rapists, pedophiles.
God is love. Therefore God must love these people too.

God did that because he has loved us since before the world was formed.

Jesus came so that we could once again have Gods blessing and also so that even know, people would talk about and begin to learn the truth about God.

Genesis 1: 26-28

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Adams blessing was to expand the Garden of Eden until it covered the earth. That's what the blessing was and still is today.

Adam had free choice and made some mistakes and turned the blessing into a curse. God then sent Jesus ( the second and last Adam) to redeem us from the curse.

That is how much we were and our loved.

Peace & Truth (Hesed)

To redeem us and so that once again we could be blessed.

You know that we really don't know exactly what happened or how Jesus died, as it wasn't written down at the time of his death, not till several decades later.(The Gospel according to Mark). Stories change over time. Also, a lot of what was written about Jesus was eliminated or changed by the Council of the Nazarene during the reign of Emperor Constantine, and the Bibles have been rewritten many times since. I believe that Jesus was here, and that his message was a simple one. He challenged and questioned the Dogma of the Hebrew religion at the time, and told us that we should do the same with other forms of Dogma. He also wanted us to love and show love, and that whatever we should be shown by others, we should show first, like love, consideration, charity, not to be judged by others. He basically rejected material wealth, and said that it wasn't necessary. If you look at Christianity today, you see it rife with the very things that Jesus rejected, like dogma, judgemental behaviour, and the love for material wealth. I believe if he was here right now, he would be pretty disgusted with those so-called followers of his, as they are the first ones to cast stones at others, and show very little love towards those who are different than them, and are willing to pass judgement on anyone who is different, and condemn them to hellfire and damnation for not following their way (something that Jesus never did).

well you are now applying logic to what the bible says. You simply can't do that. You are to belive all of what your priest/pastor tells you the bible says. Come on, have you ever read that superb piece of fiction? It's a 1400 page sleeping pill.
Jesus was no more the son of God than I am 15' tall with hands the size of frying pans and a schlong bigger than Texas.
