YES, blend and blend it, then add just a bit of corn starch to it and blend somemore till you get the consistancy you want. It works great.

For Buttercreme Frosting you need.......
2 pound bag powdered sugar
1 and 1/3 cup shortening
1 teaspoon clear vanilla
1 teaspoon butter flavor
water
Mix everything together ( in a Kitchen-Aid mixer is the easiest- doing it by hand is a little harder and messier) add the water a little at a time to make the mixing easier DON'T ADD TO MUCH WATER!!!! I like to add a little extra butter flavor because I like the taste of it. You can get clear vanilla and butter flavor at Wal-Mart in the cake section by/in the craft department

powder sugar and water is all you need
add a very little water to your powder sugar mix keep adding water a little at a time to you get to the right thickness
you can also add food coloring.grated lemon zest etc to give flavor or alcohol

I have done it myself in the past, and it works you do not add anything and the ratio will be the same after blending.

whenever i make icing its powered sugar and water mixed until it gets to a watery paste like consistency. then add food coloring etc. for color and flavor.

you need to buy powdered sugar with melted butter and a tiny bit of milk
