I don't think they were necessarily supposed to be a parody of anyone specific.
I saw the movie with my roommate (we're both art majors), and we both found his art to be really amusing because it seemed to be a mockery of how simplistic and often really not very well thought out or created art is elevated to a level of seeming genius, very often by the artist themselves.
I know I personally have seen many pieces of art that were not well articulated or conceptual that were highly praised. I felt like the movie was just commenting on that.
