If you need free Office-type software (spreadsheet software included), then you should check out OpenOffice. It is available from http://openoffice.org and should be able to run on pretty much any computer that you would like it to run on. It is not a basic program (sorry), they have included enough features to be on par with Microsoft Excel, since that is their major competitor. Much like Excel however, you can go your whole life using only the basic features and never need worry about all of the others that you could use.

Try open office which supplies you with tool comparable to microsoft office, but it's absolutely free. It includes a powerful word processor and a spreadsheet program.
