Why is it that when people are asked about pork the defenders of eating it cite the fact that we have refrigerators and other processes to make it clean now? If the problems were because of refrigeration and processing won't God have put a prohibition on all meats? Last time I check beef, lamb and eating else needed to be refrigerated just as much as pork. Also how can you say that the meat processing plants now are cleaner than the old school way of killing it and cooking it right away have you seen the meat packing plants they are filthy and it doesn't take much to get past inspection but if you don't believe me look it up.

When a person or even a group of people wish to continue in an action they enjoy, they will use anything as justification. It could go as far as refrigerating meats, or as simple as they like the taste.

Unfortunately, justification doesn't need to be based on truth or scientific method.

Okay, so this question falls a little into the realm of "what is sin?" right? I always like to beleive that there are real reasons for what is deamed a "sin" in the bible, and if this reason in now obsolete the sin should be also. I'll give a simple example. The bible says not to paint or peirce your body, and if you do, it's sinful. However, I wear makeup and I have peirced ears, and I do not beleive that I'm sinning because the reason given in the bible is that these things are pagan. Seeing as how these things are no longer pagan rituals (and there is no danger of me becoming a member of any pagan religion) I feel as though I can safely assume that I am not sinning when I put on my eyeliner.
Okay, now back to pork. I feel as though there must have been a good reason (on God's part) to make eating pork a sin (I really cannot beleive that God makes rules willy-nilly), and that this reason was based on the pork being unclean, and dangerous to eat (more dangerous than other meats, as pork has/had specific problems specific to itself). However, way back when no one knew about microbes and parasites so it could not be explaned fully. So anyway, personally I can't reason any sin into eating pork over any other type of meat, even though I don't eat it (I just don't like how it tastes). And I guess that's what I have to say about that.

From what I know, pork is considered a dirty meat. The reason is because long time ago, people thought that pigs could eat everything even their own feces and therefore making them dirty and more likely to cause diseases in human. Nowadays it's different, the meat processing industry has changed and therefore people don't prohibit pork as much. Also, know that there are many places in the meat processing industry that feed the animals their own ground up meat with other foods mixed in and hormones. This means that many people on a cow farm made strictly for beef, feed their cows ground beef, meats, veggies, and hormones to ensure a better selling product. Thus creating disease such as Mad Cow Disease. So basically, the reason some religions banned pork meat is because it was a dirty meat, (like stated above), and in order to ensure that people of their specific religion did not get sick from eating it, they just used God as an excuse to prohibit the eating of pork.

So, the question is not about refrigeration but, the processing of meat before it's sent off to the butcher and served on your table.

Also, any meat should be cooked entirely, if it is rare or even medium rare, you predisposition yourself to getting ill.

The problem that got pork banned in ancient times was a little beasty called the trichina worm. In the middle east, cooking fuel has always been a problem, and this worm made undercooked pork dangerous.
Now, where my ancestors lived, the weather was a lot colder and there was plenty of fuel. The cold prevented the worms from growing very fast and all meat was very thouroughly cooked. In that area, pork was just as good as anything else. If you read a story called the Feast of Bricriu, by the time they got around to dividing up the giant bore that was the main course, it had roasted for several days.

Pork is amongst the unclean meats for a number of reasons. Primarily mineral and health benifits of pork vrs say beef. When an animal eats plants that are full of nutrition, the person devouring the animal retains second hand nutrition from the dietary habits of the animal consumed. Secondly HAM a primary meat derived of swine contains a unhealthy amount of sodium. The daily allotment reccomended is 400mg of sodium, with a maximum of 700mg daily. 4 oz. of ham contains 1700 mg of sodium, and therefore a standard plate of ham consumed in a meal on a regular basis would cause health risks in the human body. God is looking after your health. Remember people of old did not have access to the variety of foods that we have today, and a regular diet of say pork would be a risk to your longevity.

I think you might be a bit unfair to their reasoning. Pork is MUCH more dangerous if handled or cooked improperly than most other meats. However, if you are talking about justification for eating pork with regards to Christianity vs. Judaism, any such justification is idiotic, since there was no changes in refridgeration practices in Christ's time.

Friend, judge not those who eat pork. The consuming of pork does not make a man evil. Whether a man eat pork or doesn't eat pork, it won't benefit anything but the flesh. The benefit is found only in the belief of the Almighty God. He is the God of the gentiles too. but don't believe me...... Please read Romans 14. Nothing but God matters my friend.

Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Col 2:15 [And] having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]:

The entire chapter of Romans 14.

I hope this answer helps.

There is no where in the New Testament that says you can't eat pork or any other meat for that matter . We are living under the New Testament . When Jesus died on the cross , all things in the past were changed and we now live under the new covenant .

the hjonest answer is because when gentiles converted to christianity (which had been a jewish religon), they wanted the historical tradition and legitimacy of an established religion without having to follow all the rules. they selected the ones they liked (see ten commandments and gaybashing) and disregared ones they did not want to keep like bacon and lobster. Has not a damn thing to do with refrigeration. Leviticus is pretty clear. The long list of things not to eat is long and ot in terms tha tseem subject to change, They are referred to as "abominable", a very strong word. i don't like coconut and I don't drink spoiled milk and not once have I referred to them as "abominations". Sounds to me like God thought the consumption of those things was downright evil.

not once is health mentioned. in fact, some of the things listed are MUCH healthier than things we typically eat. insects have no fat, carbs, sugar or cholesterol. they are very high in protein. the only things stops many from eating them is the percieved gross factor.
