There are thousands of zip codes in the USA. They are 5 digit numbers that help the post office sort mail quickly. In a mailing address, they are normally found after the two-letter abbreviation for the state. The first link below helps you look up the zip code for a street address in a particular city and state, but that is usually provided as part of the mailing address.

For example:
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20500

In the UK, the similar codes are called postcodes. They are longer, with a mix of numerical digits and alphabetical characters.

Buckingham Palace,
London SW1A 1AA

In America, it is called the Zip Code. In the UK it is called the Post Code.

Every post code covers around 5 houses. Zip codes are the same. Simply by looking at a postcode you can work out where the house is (eg B5 is in Birmingham, SW11 is in the south-west of London, and so on.)

The first website below gives the history of the zip code.
The second shows what post codes are.

I hope they help you do your project!

USA and UK do not have any Zip code. The locations within these countries have one, and identify a particular location. Like India has a 6 numeric code, USA has a 5 numeric code, and britain an alphanumeric one.
