It can be done, but dude, do the math. A pound of fat contains 3500 calories. You need to figure out how many cals you use per day, then get a lid on how many you take in per day. Get in a deficit and plan exactly how long you need to drop 40 lbs. For example, if your daily caloric need is 2600, and you take in 2100, it will take you 7 days to lose a pound of fat. In this scenario, you're behind the 8-ball. Obviously, for better results, up the activity and lessen the high-calorie foods. Google things like "how many calories do I need in a day" and "body mass index" and educate yourself, set your mind to it, and rock out.

It certainly can, and I believe that you can do it. I dropped eighty pounds in a year in a very healthy manner.
First, you must limit calories, but that does not necessarily mean limit food. Eat five smaller meals a day to keep your metabolism charged. Consume plenty of fruits, vegetables and water. Try microwave popcorn (light style) for snacks.
The second component is activity. You don't have to run a marathon, just take walks after dinner or go swimming in the morning. Don't listen to the three times a week stuff, that's for people going to gyms to do more intensive workouts. It's more likely to stick if you make it part of your everyday life, but going to the gym every day can get boring, so it makes more sense to work exercise into your normal routine.
Finally, good luck! I know if you just make some sensible changes and don't try to go too far too fast this could easily be a change for life............

That requires you to eat about 1000 calories a day less than you use; If you eat a lot of high-fat or sugary foods, you may be able to reach that simply by cutting way back on those. It is definitely possible, but not easy. Most dieticians recommend about 500 to 700 cal per day deficit. Adding exercise (fast walk, running or swimming) will help a lot.

I got on the Shapeworks weight loss plan and dropped 95 pounds in 8 months, so it is possible with the right plan, for me, Shapeworks was the right plan. Here is a website if you want to check it out for yourself: www.loseweightnow.com/tfward

You can loose more than 40 pounds in 5 months. I lost 60 in 6 months. It is best to take it slow, though. Simply put, you have to burn more calories than you use. Try eating about 1500 calories a day, and start a mild exercise program.

no you could probably do it
A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER:
The correct way to burn fat and stay healthy is to burn more calories than you consume
You need to make sure you are eating healthy foods while still excercising
If you have a big appetite drink plenty of water so that you will feel full but not consume calories
But you should always eat
If you start to skip meals you will only be more hungry at your next meal and probably eat way too much
Remember, the average persons stomach is as big as a slice of pizza scrunched up into a ball
So you shouldnt be putting more food into your stomach than what fits
Also, it takes aproximately 15-20 minutes for your brain to realize that you are full
so eat slower and you will realize sooner when you are not hungry anymore
ALSO....
i found this artical called "50 Habits of "Naturally Thin" People
How to get Started:Decide how much you want to loose and see how many calories a day it will take to make it happen by year's end. Then, work into your routines however many of these eating tweaks and exercises you need to achieve your goal.
Slash 250 cal.s a day to lose about 25 lbs. in a year, Slash 500 cal.s to loose 50 pounds.
This is based on a 150-pound person: you may need to cut more/ fewer calories depending on ur weight, age & gender. It also assumes your normal calorie intake essentially stays the same and your weight is stable.

Yes, but you can get very sick doing it. I did, almost landed in the hospital. Now I am hypoglycemic. Talk to your doctor. Don't stay on any diet for more than two weeks, rest, then resume.
