With the quality of movies that Hollywood has been turning out lately, and the incredible amount of money it costs to see these abominations, is Hollywood just out the get our money?

Ok, maybe I worded that wrong.
Do you think Hollywood is trying to rip off the people who go see movies?
I know I don't have to go. Matter of fact, I can't remember what the last movie I went to see was. But it was at the $5.00 movie theater, I know that.

You people... I KNOW I DON'T HAVE TO GO SEE THEM!! I do vote with my feet. I won't watch a Tim Robbins movie. I won't watch a Johnny Depp movie. I changed my Auto Insurance company because I found out Progressive was supporting things I don't agree with. I VOTE WITH MY WALLET.
I GET IT.... Just answer the question please. Or don't.. I don't care. Just don't tell me I don't have to go see movies, BECAUSE I KNOW THAT!!!

I agree with the idea that Hollywood is ripping us off but more importantly, they are contributing to the dumbing down of America. I don't go out to see movies in the theater often as I find it appalling to pay the price of a ticket and there are very few movies worth both the waste of money and the waste of time, but because I was spending time with someone I cared about and they wanted to see a movie, I have recently been in the theater to see three movies. The three movies all had one thing in common which was that they were mind-numbingly awful. I couldn't believe these movies got made, the actors got paid a huge amount of money to make them, and that we as a consumer haven't as yet risen up and said we won't go again until something of quality has been made. One of these movies was horrifically bad, one was not only bad but depressing for a comedy, and the third, I actually got up and left because I couldn't stand it another minute.

Ripping us off? Yes, definitely but as the viewing public we get what we are willing to pay for and apparently, Hollywood has figured out that we will go see anything. We need to start staying away until the moviemakers realize we will no longer accept being fed junk.

Yes, I do think that Hollywood is ripping us off.
You know how much it costs to watch a movie nowadays? ALOT OF MONEY....here it costs $10.00 irregadless if it's a matinee or not. To me, personally, it really doesn't need to cost that much. If anything, you are paying for the sound quality and lavish theatre and not the movie itself.
And if you have a family, guess how much that is? With 2 adults and 2 kids -alot of the times, kids pay just as much as general admission-it comes out to $40. And then if the whole family wants popcorn, drinks or whatnot. That's like $60/70 bucks right there cause we know that popcorn and drinks at the theatre are more expensive then anywhere else. It's a "no no" if you wish to bring your own food or drinks. Cause God forbid that not everyone wishes to fill their bodies with an abudance of butter and sugar. And it's not like they have good alternatives...fast food to me isn't a better alternative. Some people, like myself, sneak food in.

This is why I prefer to go to a movie theatre (like Rainbow Cinema's) because their ticket prices are under $5.00. And if I watch a crappy movie because of it, hey, at least it was cheaper then renting it. Going there with your family is less costly and more affordable. And not EVERYONE can afford to go the movies. Some people/families are the working poor.
You think that Hollywood cares that it's c rapping out bad movies? No, it doesn't. Look how much they pay Hollywood actors. Look how the media treats Hollywood actors...as if they are something to talk about. And the general population is seen as what? Movie-goers? Is this what we have become? A society of movie-goers?

I would rather pay $5.00 a movie at an okay theatre than pay $10 at a extremely nice one to watch a movie that ends up being crappy (like Ultra-Violet and Aeon Flux). Even with the first Spiderman movie, I left saying "I paid 10 bucks for that?"
It's not like Hollywood is going going under due to financial loses. It's not like Hollywood actors are living in poverty.

Yes they rip us off. Why? Cause it's hollywood. They don't give a c rap that their movies aren't worth the 10 dollars we pay. They care about how much the movie is making and how to keep their whining actors happy. And if the movie doens't do well at the theater, they know they can make up their loses through dvd and video games.
Hollywood doesn't care that it's ripping us off because it cares more about it's loses and gains. So as consumers (ACK!) we need to find ways not to be ripped off.
And I personally think that going to inexpensive theatres is one way. Let famous players or cineplex go under for all I care. Let's see what Hollywood will do then. Probably pay actors less....give them 10 million a movie instead of 20. Isn't that sad?
:) :) :)

Hollywood is out to get your money. In fact, organized mass boycotts of theaters nation wide, protesting the grotesque price gouging of ticket sales and concessions gets my support.

Wouldn't hurt for a long summer and holiday season to keep things quiet at the CD movie rental shops and give the pay per view people something to sweat about, either.

If you want to send Hollywood a clear message, you gotta get their attention where it counts: straight aimed at their profits.

i agree that hollywood is ripping us off.. and most of the idea's for movies arent even original anymore... most of them are all remakes of other movies... Jarhead didnt it seem alot like full metal jacket or some of those other vietnam war movies but in a different time? and them remaking pretty much every old movie or turning a old tv show from the 70's into a movie... NOT ORIGINAL!

Who makes you go to movies? Stay home, and read a book. Or take a walk or something. If you think the movies are abominations, why do you pay to see them?

I do not think they are ripping us off because we ourselves decide to watch or not to watch the movies Hollywood produces. There are many great movies out there.

My questioning is are they trying to "dumb us down", or do they think we are just dumb?

Yes, it is about money, but mostly to production cost and huge, huge actor salaries.

Why would anyone pay to see a dumb Julia Roberts movie?
