Whenever other dogs come within a few feet of my dog she barks uncontrollably. She does not hate other dogs and has had plenty of socialisation, but it seems to be a hard habit to break....Please help!!

You need a copy of Cesar "The Dog Whisperer" Millan's book, Cesar's Way. He has helped many with the same problem. If you live in the US and have cable he is on National Geographic channel, or sometimes you can get copies of these shows at your local library. If you live outside the US, you can buy this book online.

i agree with m360---your dog views you as leader, or the alpha male or female of her pack.

that being said, i've had no luck at all getting my pups to shut up rather than bark at other dogs or the mailman.

i would get Cesar's book. that guy is amazing! i always watch the dog whisperer when it comes on---he's really something else.

best of luck!

Dogs that are not on streets or frre to move get envy to other dogs that's why your dog barks. She wants to be like other dogs too.

they are a breed that protects others, my white German Shepherd lived 17 years, he would also do that. and he never stoped doing it. he would reduce and sometimes stop barking when i gave him a ball or pet him to reinforce our bond,

German Shepherds are very loyal & protective dogs - you are part of her 'pack' - perhaps she thinks she is protecting you? My GS did that... I never figured out what to do though.. sorry :-(
