it's normal, and it's just his personality. he has his reasons. my neighbors used to have a cross eyed cat who would growl at you every single second, but he'd look happy. it was kinda funny, but it's not excactly his fault...

Cats are predators. Also, they are not nocturnal for the most part. They sleep during the night for the most part but tend to sleep in short bursts which is why they seem noturnal to us.

Anyway. During the day, your cat's hunting instincts are active. He wants to hunt things. Go get a stick with a piece of string and play with him. Also, cats hunt solo. He doesn't want you touching him and probably doesn't want you hanging around scaring off prey.

At night, it's a different story. This is when cats are social. They sleep together and spend time together when they aren't sleeping. He wants to lay next to you and spend time with you.

By the way, men are the same for the most part and for the same reasons.

I would make sure there are no health problems involved. Take him to a vet. If its an older cat, it could be that he has arthritis or some other kind of pain during the heat of the day, and feels better at night. Have him checked out.

he may be a' nite owl' so to speak and want the affection and attention at nitewhile in the day heis bored to death or would rather be out chasing things? i have 12 cats/kittens and some have personalities that are fun n cant go wrong , but lemme tell you my gf has this cat i swear is VERY VERY deceiving , shes all fluffy n pretty long hair gray n white thing, one of those cats you just cant help but pet..... but about 3 seconds to 1 minute into the petting( depending on her tude at moment) she with out warning will haul off n bite the crap out of you , i now nicknamed her CUJO! !I Warned my lil boys to stay away from her to the point my toddler runs the other way lol

animals are like people in their emotions I believe and some just are only social on their terms ( yano have you ever met a person who only came around when they wanted somethign etc... your cat is that way it seems only wants to come around when he wants to not your terms
as long as he isnt biting or scratching you i wouldnt freak tooo bad
god luck

Cats need their own space and when they want you to pay attention to them they let you know. My brothers catafter a year or two of being just normal she would sit on the stairs and meow when ever she saw me. Also she just got jealous once so i hissed at her and she bit me ,we had to take care of another kitten.

Cats are nocturnal, so he is probably perkier in the evenings. My 20 year old cat is a man's cat, but he will come to me when its raining or cold and he wants cover.

i think so, i mean cats are generally nocturnal creatures which means they are active at night and usually sleeps or in this case "cat naps" during the day. maybe during the day your cat is just giving the signal " don't mess with me" but at night saying "i need cuddling".
its a normal behavior for your cat which i find irritably cute !!!!

one of my cats does that he runs from me everytime he sees me. part of it is because he has feline herpes and feline asthma so I have to give him 4 meds a day so he assosiates me with having to take yucky medicine. my boyfriend he totally loves he will jump up on his lap and sometimes spend 20 mins up there. (I'm kinda jelous of that) but at night, when he sleeps with us he has to sleep so that he has some part of him on me and if he sees I wake up and open my eyes he will come up for kisses and then let me go back to sleep. (my boyfriend is a little jelous of that). cats can be crazy like that.

Cats are so funny. It could be that he wants attention when he wants it. LOL. At night he sees you at the computer-paying attention to not him, he gets jealous.

I think they key word is 'HE' . I also have a male cat who only wants loving when he wants it, otherwise he'll nip and scratch. It's nothing to worry about, but i know from experience it's a bit annoying. But we love our kitty's anyway.

You don't own a cat, a cat owns you. Your cat dictates when he wants to be left alone and when he wants affection, so, your cat is quite normal. :-)
