Are there any hotels that you like or recommend? I would rather not spend more than $160 a night. My parents also do not want to stay at a hotel that is less that 3 stars. So 3 stars is the min. Is that pretty reasonable (3 stars less or around $160 a night)?

Just got back from NYC. We stayed at the Comfort Inn Midtown, which was an amazing deal. $170 a night, a block from Times Square. It's at 129 W. 46th Street. Look it up, you'll love it. Continental breakfast too! Try priceline.com for the cheapest deals.

try the usuals:travlocity,expedia,orbitz..com. When you find a hotel you are interested in, try to find a direct website or phone# for that hotel. Try to book directly because these sites tack on a fee, by booking directly, the fee may be around $25 cheaper and you can cancel if needed. Many of these sites will not refund you or a portion of your fee if you need to cancel. Should the hotel charge more, ask if they will match the websites fee, usually they do and you will still have the flexibility to cancel.

Try Hotel Pennsylvania (across from Penn Station 134.00 per night) - actual a decent hotel, old but everything is working order. But then again, how much time would you actually be spending you hotel while in NYC

Hi. Before going to New York City, you're going to have to check out the hotel reviews given by customers who have stayed at the hotel because alot of NYC hotels are deceiving. Go to trip advisor (click the link below because it directs you to the New York hotels) and you will get the real scoop on any hotel. But your best bet is to stay at a bed and breakfast in someone's home, which is what my parents-in-law did when they first visited NYC and they really enjoyed their stay/trip. Bed and breakfasts hosts/owners are much more accomodating and their rooms are much more CHEAPER (you can save up to 50%) than staying at the hotels because they include breakfast! Some bed and breakfast/vacation rental owners also allow you to use their kitchen so you can even cook your own meals so you can save from eating out. Are you going to get that kind of deal staying at a hotel? Go to craigslist (the link below directs you directly to the NYC bed and breakfasts) and find which one fits your budget. Email the owners, tell them which dates you are planning to stay, ask lots of questions, ask for pictures, and remember to always go with your intuition!

PS. When searching through the bed and breakfasts, unless you know about the other NYC boroughs, only inquire about the Manhattan location listings! If you are not sure if the location is in Manhattan, ASK. Some listings are out of town also, so you don't want to overlook that. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

PSS. I also know of someone that owns a guest house and an apartment in New York City that you can rent. The apartment includes a kitchen, washer/dryer, and has continental breakfast. It's for $140 per night- it's good if you have a big family or traveling in a group. You can email me at biz4bks@yahoo.com and I will give you his contact info. You can inquire his availability about the apartment just give your dates you plan on being in New York City. My parents in law stayed at one of his guest rooms when they first visited New York and they loved it! The apartment is located on the 2nd floor above the guest rooms. If you want the guest room it is for $95/per night for 2 people; $70/per night for 1 person and it also includes continental breakfast. Let me know!
