Normally about 8, however I am sure that some will live longer. It depends on the conditions they are kept in and the food that they get, and of course they wony be laying at that age either!
I find that Bantams live longer than my hens, as hens for egg laying are usually hybrids and are worn out laying by about 3-4 years, so they generally don't live as long.
But little bantams seem to live longer and lay longer and don't seem to age as much, beside which I think that they have more character, but that is just personal choice.
I used to show my bantams and my hens and bantam eggs and was VERY successful.

Under optimal conditions a chicken can be expected to live from six to 15 years. Most live between 8 and 10 years. In Missouri we had a chicken that was 13 years old, but unfortunately she was killed by a hunter's bird dogs. She was quite healthy when she died.

Chickens can live many years. I had a Brahmah cross hen that was almost 20 when she passed over the Rainbow Bridge several years ago.
West Nile Virus can kill the chickens though, so if you have any mosquitos around, they are the carriers of this terrible virus and you need to get rid of them.

i have been looking after my chickens now for 7 or 8 years. Some of my chooks have lived for 5 of 6 years. it depends on how well you look after them. As long as they have a wide variety of food ( seed, left over vegetable scraps, insects), water and you keep the pen clean.
