My son is 20 months old and not circumcised. My question is how long should I wait before I am able to retract his foreskin for cleaning? I have never really heard an answer for this and assuming that the foreskin will loosen whenever it is ready, if you have an uncircumcised son when did you experience this?

my doctor just said that it will losen in time and then can be retracted, he never gave me an estimate of ages. None of my friends have boys uncircumcised his age or older to be able to ask either.

sweet gurl's answer is right, be cautious, let him do it himself. and thank you for contributing to the cause of not having your beautiful son's foreskin ripped off by some heartless wretch who only wants it for the good of the monumentally lucrative foreskin products industry (mainly skincare products).

thank you. i really mean it. see my y1a profile i am specialising in infant male genital mutilation.

ok, so here's what to do:

leave his foreskin alone.

that's right, no ritual of rolling it back and forcing its natural detachment over the years. just let it be. at the moment it is attached to the glans, and it may take until puberty to fully detach. at which time he will discover (probably) a lot of dead skin underneath, and spend a few minutes extra in the shower washing it off. this will be a very delicate exercise, as his foreskin will have done a great job of keeping his glans protected and sensitive. you have just done a great service to him therefore by ensuring he and his partner will have a satisfying sex life.

thank you once again! really.

btw aldenpenney has the wrong idea. the foreskin will not readhere. and good on him for ignoring the doctor's advice to have it cut off. what a tos.ser. once the foreskin has detached, the penis is fully matured and ready to have sex. the glans will now be fully exposed to the wonderful smoothness (etc we all know the rest and ain't it great) inside the woman's vagina.

its detachment from the glans is a natural part of physical maturing, just like a girl's breasts growing. we don't go around advising them to pull their nipples out twice a day to help them stretch out quicker do we?

I was 12 years of age before I start pulling my foreskin back. The doctor initially pulled it back and suggested that I should have my foreskin circumcised. He explained the procedure and how he would "snip" the foreskin. My mother ask me if I wanted it "snipped". I told her no because I had no problem with it. She did, however, show me how to pull my foreskin back so that the head was completely exposed and then pull the foreskin back over the head. She said this was to keep it clean and to prevent my foreskin from adhering to the head and help to stretch it. I do this twice a day.

I was just reading some of the answers to this and some of the additional comments that you added. I respect your decision to not have your son circumcised and it is just that...........your decision. People can live long lives without having it done. LOL
I have a handicap child and get all kinds of advice I do not want, I hope you get some more serious answers.

your son is about the right age. but it dont go as far back as you would think. i have two sons and it was weird at firts. but as they get older it goes even more. but make sure that you let your son know what he needs to do when he starts potty trainning. because if he dont do it, it will get infected or end up with a rash. it happen to my 3 yr old. so everytime he goes to take a bad i remind him to do it. but at 20months its just a little just clean it around the rim. he'll be find.

I had it done 12 weeks ago. I would test it out 6 weeks from your date of surgery. Go very slow & easy until you know for sure it feels right. Each person is different - and total recovery time will be different. Even once it is healed completely, you don't need to beat that sucker to death, you know - just take it slow & easy & enjoy the feelings.

you should clean it every time he has a bath.... pull it back ONLY AS FAR AS IT GOES!!! but it should come all the way back at his age. my son was pulling his back at that age by him self so i could clean it.. if he does pull on it that shows that is is ready to pull back.. HE WILL NOTHURT HIM SELF. clean it with mild soap and water. if the tip for the forskin is red it is doing it job... it can be cause by to many bubble bath. and not often enought wet daiper changes.. the best thing for it is to run around naked.. also can be cause by the soap that u use to wash his clothes... my son is 3 and he loves to help me clean his penis. he wont let me pull it back...lol that is his job so he tells me..lol... if u have anymore questions u can email me at bangingringa79@netscape.net i think i can answer it more better ifu can tell me ifhe pulls on it and try to tell you how to do it... thanks sherrie

I'm 9 years old. I was circumcised when I was 5. Maybe that will do.

I have a 24 month old and I've pulled back his foreskin everytime he takes a bath, I've been doing it since he was small.

You should have started long before now. The skin will stretch. Just make a ritual of pulling it back as far as it will go when you change the diapers.

well my son is 9 months now but at 6 months his Dr. told me to do so--all you do is just pull it back a little not too much and clean it he'll be fine.
