Oh yes, 'Smug Couples' as Bridget Jones calls them. But what is there to be jealous of really?

They think they have it made because society is designed around couples but you quickly forget what you have to give up.

Personally I'd rather be a whole person rather than half of a couple. I don't want to spend the rest of my life with one person, just like I don't want to have to listen to just one record or eat only one flavour of crisps.

Learn to enjoy the freedom of single life, and get over it.

I've been single for three and a half years now, and for a damn good reason! I'm 38 and my experience of coupledom has not been a good one... and I'm not just talking about my own experiences, I'm talking about those around me too... I have met many, many couples over the years and can honestly think of only 3 that I would envy for the relationship they have. I agree with what the other poster said.. scratch the surface of most couples and there's usually a whole host of problems.. I've envied couples from afar, only to get to know them and find out that the relationship is grounded in abuse, adultery, addiction, co-dependency, insecurity etc... No thanks! That's why I'd rather stay single than be with someone for the sake of 'not being alone'. Sure, at times it can be hard and feel like everyone is in a couple while you have to struggle on alone.. but a quick reality check (ie talking to some people in couples) soon sorts that one out!

I used to and then someone said to me that you don't know what going on in their relationship so why be jealous.

When I delved a bit deeper into some of my friend's relationships there was a whole manner of problems that I wouldn't want to deal with!

If you're single and want to be in a relationship it can be hard, however enjoy what you have cos you don't know if the couple a living a lie, one is being abused, one is in denial etc

On the other hand the couple maybe completely perfect. Your loved one is on their way!

I am not jealous but I envy successful couples and this gives me strength to try for my own! If and when I can assist, I do!

Sometimes but then you see a situation where they argue or put up with unreasonable behaviour and you think thank goodness I am alone.
