To push God away and fall into old sins. It is something that all Christians must fight against because it is so easy to backslide. Think of it as if you are climbing up a steep hill with lots of loose rocks and gravel, you will have to work doubly hard the higher you climb because it is steeper. So you fall down more but if you keep climbing even as you are falling you find that you never quite hit the bottom and can climb higher still after you regain your footing.

Spiritually - to have been moving forward in the way of the Lord and then to halt. An example: You've been going to church for several years and you miss one week because you are sick. The next week you miss because you have to be out of town. The third week you child is sick. The fourth week you oversleep and decide, well, I could make it to the worship hour, but we'll just go ahead and rest and go tonight. By the time tonight rolls around, you've lost track of time and you don't go. Then, it's become too easy to not go and for whatever reason no one has even called to see why you've been out so you decide they must not care anyway, so now you're justified and you stop going altogether. You have become backsliden. Then someday your sick child starts using language that you don't approve of, and you say where did you learn that, from you Daddy, and you realize, we've got to get back into church - and you start again, and each time you backslide, you know that you don't ever want to do it again, and you keep moving forward, and backward, and it's called life - we all go through it and we all learn and grow from it. I hope this has given you a good visual.

Backslide
Dictionary answer: To revert to sin or wrongdoing, especially in religious practice.
First you decide to follow Christ with repention. Then you willfully turn your back on God and decide to start "sinning" again.

In an effort to make some progress, whether it be in your job(a promotion) or something personal(such as trying to become an olypiad),
you suddenly do something stupid, that ruins your chances of progress for a long time.
That is called taking a backslide.
What is all this Biblical jargon?
People all my life have used that expression and they DEFINITELY were not referring to anything in the Bible.
What?

It means to begin to fall away from God, like when you think about sinning, act on it, start to feel bad, and then repent of it because you are sorry and want to be right again.

There is no such thing. It is a term used by churches that means you are not going to church and you are not in fellowship with God. This is not possible because God is inside us and He is always with us, no matter where we are or what we are doing.

It means you have fallen back into a "habitual" sin. Not just a sin but one that you do constantly and know it is wrong
