"Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine? No, but I do it anyway because it's sterile and I like the taste." -Patches O' Houlihan

People do this, and have been promoting for millenia (yes, since early Indian aryuvedic traditions). In theory, it's harmless, and can provide alot of recycled nutrients and vitamins. However, it also provides your body with a lot of waste that would simply have to be excreted again. Why not simply take some vitamins, or better yet, eat some veggies?

Urine is sterile, actually, so it *can* be drinked. Some people do it for sexual pleasure, which I personally can't get into to, but its also a way to stave off dying of thirst.

It will not, however, heal any injuries, such as brain or nerve ones.

Though many have been conditioned to think of urine as “dirty,” quite the opposite is true. Except in the case of a urinary tract or kidney infection, urine fresh from the urethra is sterile, devoid of any pathogens. Urine is 95 percent water, with less than five percent urea, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, hormones, proteins, antibodies, and other beneficial pharmacological agents.

I would think if you have an uni nary tract infection, that it would not be at all healthy for you to drink your own urine.. you would be putting all sorts of bacteria into you mouth, and throat, and , stomach.. not healthy at all.. It was on an episode of CSI a while back, very strange.. I am sure there are people out there that believe that it is good for you, but there are also people out there that believe eat bugs are good for you too.. Not going to try either one..

I heard that if you are somewhere and dont have any achole or anti-bacterial to kill infection on a cut is to put urine....your own...on it and it will heal cause your body is already amune to it. Like if you out in the middle of nowhere land. Not like standing outside your house or anything.

If it's chilled to the proper temperature and poured into wine glasses, it can be a very nice experience. After drinking a whole lot of Diet Coke, it can have a nice bouquet.

It is absolutely not advised to indulge in this activity. I notice someone has said in a previous answer you could drink urine if dying of thirst. That is a myth and actually will kill you faster. Urine contains uremic acid and will, if drank in large enough quanitities, shut down your kidneys by poisoning you. So, that myth of 'drinking your own urine if you were dying of thirst' is just that, a dangerous myth.

Not a stupid question. In South america they drink it to help fight internal viruses. My wife enjoys it directly from the source.
