So what do I do now that my dog's gone?

We let her go...we had to let her go...I couldn't stand to watch her. I'm hurting, my sister's hurting. I do have a point to this question- does anybody have any songs? Music helps. Songs for her, for my Peppermint?

Peppermint, bless him, has died and left this home, the woodchucks running wild, the bushes overgrown. Slip unseen into the skein of trees, slide through dusky grasses and scatter his ashes. It’s all over, he’s never coming back. There’ll be no more roaming. He was only here for ????teen years, and now the branches scratch my face and I can’t hold back my tears. Long ago I’d see him running in the snow, he’d come in from the cold and he’d lie down by the stove. Pass along this loping road, the needley grasp of briars on the slope. He’d never been to church, so he doesn’t have a soul. He isn’t waiting at the place where all of us will go. But the woodchucks wouldn’t run so wild, the bushes wouldn’t be so overgrown if we were not alone. Bound unbound through the boundless air, remaining wisps of hair. Barking out through everywhere, the trees, the grass, the rain, and Peppermint in the air. He was in this world, by my side he was curled, but he came uncurled and this world holds him that much tighter.

I'm sorry you lost your Peppermint. It is hard to lose a pet. Remember that in letting her go you helped end her pain. She was hurting and you made it better. Remember all the things you loved her for. Then a few months from now, after you've mourned her and you've started to feel a little better, consider getting a puppy. I know the puppy wont be your Peppermint. But, there's a void that Peppermint used to fill and somewhere there's a cute little puppy face that will help fill it once again.

Also consider getting your Peppermint a gravestone. There are companies who make them just for pets. Some will even engrave the pet's picture on the stone. Best wishes.

I am soo sorry for your loss. i kno exactly how it feels to lose a beloved pet, for i am going through the same thing. i just lost my best friend not that long ago, i had to put her to sleep, for she was in soo much pain. its going to take some time. hopefully, you'll have people around to support you. losing a pet is REally hard, because most people don't kno how it feels. some pple jus say, "well, jus get another dog." or, "it was just a dog." even one of my considered-to-be closest friends had the nerve to say, "well, she had cancer. she was old and sick. she was just gonna die anyway." Very Insensitive. but if anyone says anything like that to u, just remember that there are lots of people out there who kno how u feel. join a support group. write a poem about her. Pray to Her. if u pray to her, she will be able to understand you, dont worry. i pray to my buddy every day. it sort of eases the pain. always remember that all dogs go to heaven, and our dearly departed pets are watching over us. Always. Her spirit is with you.

Love her but let her go, Some day you can get another dog not to replace peppermint but to fill the void she has left, Trust me I know from experience. I lost my best friend but now I have Baby I love him but I can now remember and still love my best friend without so much pain

Oh, I am so sorry, but I am glad that you let her go, with all of the pain that she was going through... It was selfless of you to do that for her.

Any music that strikes you is good right now. Others will have specifics for you. I just wanted to say that I admire you for what you did, and I understand how hard it is. They are *so* hard to let go... Especailly when they have been with you for so long. Just remember... She will always be with you, and she will be waiting for you.

make donations and volunteer in her name at the local animal shelter, she is waiting for you; My 9yr old ridgeback passed away in December...She was my bud. I adopted her from the shelter so i return the favor and make the best of the lives of the homeless dogs that need my love now. Someday you will fall in love again.. you will never replace peppermint.... but you will learn to love again.
Thats the best part of being an animal owner, providing that animal the best life you can from begining to end..and doing it over and over again....
