Well, here's the thing. If you think players are making ridiculous amounts of money (and I agree), what about the owners? The owners are the ones that can afford to pay them this money. On the one hand, I'd rather see the players make more money than the owners; however, I do think they are overpaid considering they are only playing a game.
Remember in Field of Dreams when Shoeless Joe says, "Man, I did love this game. I'd have played for food money. It was the game... The sounds, the smells. Did you ever hold a ball or a glove to your face? ..... It was the crowd, rising to their feet when the ball was hit deep. Shoot, I'd play for nothing!" That's the kind of love for the game that has been missing in recent years. It became about contract years and free agency, not just pure, simple love of the game.
Should they get paid? Yeah, it's their job. Should they be paid millions of dollars? I don't think so. My job can be just as dangerous. I have just as much chance getting injured as a player. Do I matter less because I'm not in the limelight? I'm having trouble walking right now because I got banged up at a softball game Wednesday night, but I'm still going to be heading to work in about an hour and a half, getting paid $10/hr to help people shop. I don't expect to sit down and still get paid today.
The good thing is that a lot of players do not blow all their money on themselves. Many of them have set up foundations and charities to help the underpriviledged. I don't mind those players making a ton of money. In fact, I'd rather see those players make more than anybody else for the simple fact that they have more to give away.

Frankly, you don't get paid to play a sport because people aren't willing to pay to watch you. I agree that athletes are overpaid but I disagree that this is a problem in society that needs to be addressed. The idea that because athletes are making a lot of money then average people are suffering is ignorant. If owners of teams can afford to pay their players millions of dollars then they should be free to do that. Sports teams are like any other business. You have to invest money in people that are going to help you reach your goals. It is a mutually beneficial agreement. If a team overpays for players then they will not perform as well and people won't go to the games. The owner is the one who takes a financial hit. The same thing happens when a team refuses to pay money for talented players. The players go elsewhere and the team goes nowhere. No one wants the team they root for to be in last place every year. If you feel that passionate about the issue then don't spend any of your money at a ballpark or on officially liscensed merchandise. Just don't allow yourself to get to jealous.

should any athlete or entertainer get paid so much? probably not, but in American society they're in the public eye and definitely are among the richest people. To play any sport at a professional level means that you're an incredible athlete and to sit here and deny that or think you could do the same is ignorant. I've played competitive sports from 5 years old to college and everytime the kids get better and better, by the time your in the pros it's the elite few. i think atheletes deserve the money they get just like actors or musicians. all of these professional probably are over paid, but that's just the societ we live in.

Really, why should you or anyone in your class care how much a major league baseball player gets paid? Suppose Alex Rodriguez was an accountant, living in the Bronx and making $50,000 a year. Would you care if he got a raise and made $52,000?
So why do you care how much he's making just because you know who he is?
A lot of people are willing to pay money to watch baseball games. The better the players are, the better the game is, and the more people want to pay to see. If you don't pay to watch baseball, then it's not your money anyway, and you shouldn't concern yourself.
If you do pay to watch baseball, then obviously you feel it's worth the money, and the players have earned your dollars.

Should baseball players get paid so much? People look at their salaries and say no. But lets look at some other salaries, Tom Cruise and other movie stars regularly get $20 million per picture and that is for about 3 months work. Should cruise get that much? Yes, because having him in the movie generates that much and more in revenue. Should a baseball player be paid $20 million per season ( 8 months work )? If the team owner feels that that player will generate that much from increased ticket and merchandise sales, absolutely!

Any idiot who states that players of any sport should not be paid that much need to learn the game & what money is.
Think about it, an owner makes $200 million and says "hey, i think i'll give my best player $15 million a year" - then go for it, it's his money NOT yours and he can do whatever he damn well pleases.
This is just a classic case of people who think their opinion is needed on everything. If I was given $100 million and I decided I wanted to pay some girl $2 million a year to clean my house, should I make sure everyone else is ok with that? God no. It's his money, let him spend it and keep your opinions to yourself

You don't get paid because nobody is paying to see you play a game. In the case of major league players, millions of people pay money to see them play. That money goes either to the players (in the form of salaries) or the owners. So, the question shouldn't necessarily be "should baseball players get paid so much," but "who should get paid so much, the players or the teams' owners?"

The question has been asked since the mid-1970s, and in most cases the answer is "no." Why should we care? Because their salaries affect ticket prices. And when a team makes a million-dollar mistake like the Mariners did last year with Pokey Reese, it's coming out of the fans' pockets.
This is why the players' strike in 1994 nearly killed major league baseball.
And let's face it: is an average major-league rookie worth $400,000?

No.
They should be paid between 250,000 to 900,000 a season. The amount would depend on how long they have played, consistantcy of stats, and their average number games played ( except players in 1st and 2nd year).
They should not be pay Millions of dollars per year.

Obviously they are terribly over paid. But since ythe owners pay that, who is really to blame? Should there even be any blame. I mean if my boss wanted to pay me 20 million for the next year, I think I owuld take it.
