You need to show her that you are responsible enough to own one. Offer to PAY for it. Offer to PAY for the food (And if she lets you get one, buy the food, in bulk, before you need it, that way you don't need to nag her to go out and buy more) Offer to BUY the cage yourself.

Have you had a pet before?

Birds are NOT messy. Some have a lot of dander and dust that builds up on stuff around the house but a parakeet (or budgie is what it probably is) .. they don't produce much dust at all.

If mom is worried about messy, then get a cage with a seed guard. They work awesome.

If mom just won't get you a bird.. she's probably worried that you will spend lots of time with it at first coz it's new and fun, but then you'll lose interest and the daily duties will ultimately turn into her problem.

You'll have to try and do something to show that you REALLY want the bird. Tell her that you want to do some daily or weekly chores around the house in turn for the bird. If she still doesn't agree.. do the chores anyway without any reward for doing them. In due time.. I think your mother would be so appreicative, she'd probably get you the bird.

But you need to keep up on those chores, never forget. Keep on schedule. If after a month, two months even a year maybe.. and you're still responsible enough, I would bet that she would probably work with you on getting a bird. If she doesn't, then at least you've done something nice for your mother. You will feel good about it.. and life will reward you somehow.

The other option, is getting something really basic. Like a betta fish or goldfish. They're MUCH less of a commitment than a bird. If you get a bird, it could be with you when you graduate high school!

Birds are messy and parakeets in particular are also noisey. A parakeet would be a lot of work--every day. Start smaller, ask for a goldfish. Then after a while, after you've shown your mom that you can handle the goldfish, perhaps she'll be willing to talk about a parakeet.

show her the birds on a website. I have a cockatiel and she is loud but I also own a baby parrotlet, they are the smallest parrot. I paid $150.00 can for him . he will grow 5" and will talk and is very quiet and sings so cool. This bird is very active and if you do buy a bird DO NOT go to a petstore, Go to a breeder as the chicks are probably hand fed.

unlike what some other people said, parakeets are low maintenance and also low on the budget!!! I had to beg my mom for one but eventually she gave in cuz i told her how sweet and loveable they are and its true!!! and they are NOT noisy.... also i advice you to get 2 because otherwise they get bored and u have to spend a lot of time with them... just a suggestion...

You need to show her that you are responsible-make a schedule of things you will do to care for the bird- tell her you'll pay for it ( they are only like $10-20) take her to the pet store and have her look at them, say you'll clean up after them that should do it! if not, i'm sorry!!!
