Is it just another word for denial?

Or is also when you use God's name in vain? For example; I would say "Jesus Christ! Get the hell out of my way!", while driving on the highway to someone driving slow as heck in front of me in the "passing lane" (I call it the fast lane but some people in Yahoo had to correct me). Anyway, I'm not directing it to Him; I'm not telling Jesus to get the hell out of my way or anything. I hope thats a forgivable sin, cuz I say it all the time.

Exclaiming something like “Jesus Christ! Get the hell out of my way!” while driving on a highway has nothing whatsoever to do with the admonishment in the Bible about taking God’s name in vain. First of all, the name of God was lost many centuries ago because of the prohibition against speaking it aloud and writing it down. We know many substitutes for it today, but do not know the actual name. Even if we did know the name today, using it as a word of profanity still would not be the admonishment in question. What the Bible does caution against is, after learning the name, not calling upon that name in everything you say or do. That would be taking the name in vain (or for nothing).

Taking the name of the Lord or God is a sin, it is one of the 10 commandments See Deuteronomy Chapter 5 Verse 11 (I am using the King James Version of the Bible). Blasphemy denotes, according to the Marion Webster dictionary, the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverance for God. In ancient times blasphemy was considered so serious that the punishement for willful and intentional blasphemy was death by stoning.

Blasphemy: A contemptuous or profane act, utterance, or writing concerning God or a sacred entity. The act of claiming for oneself the attributes and rights of God. An irreverent or impious act, attitude, or utterance in regard to something considered inviolable or sacrosanct

According to the definition, I guess so.

Here's the thing about your saying "I hope thats a forgivable sin, cuz I say it all the time" ... in order to repent, you have to stop doing it lol. It's rude, it's like someone calling your father bad names. It is offensive to the faithful of God; when you say it, to us it is as if you just gave off a bad smell.

So I beg you, don't be ignorant, find another word to use in those times, I'm sure if you think hard enough you can find something funny and witty :)

Yes, it is Blasphemous to take the Lord's Name in vain. However, it IS pardonable.

The only sin that one can never receive pardon for is Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Well, you're using God's name in VAIN. His name is something holy that's only supposed to be used whenever you're talking to him or referring to him- it's like sanctifying something and then trashing it later on. It is a sin- and it's forgiveable. All sins are forgiveable if you're truly sorry and willing to change your ways.

blasphemy is speaking evil
using God's name in vain means using it in an unworthy or useless manner. It is one of the Commandments
by calling Jesus, get the..., you are using His name in an unworthy manner. It has no merit to use His name in a selfish way.
