i have a puppie shitzue{8 weeks old} & i noticed a small,but hard flaky,crusty lump on top of the head.what could it be?

could be a scab.. take it to the vet to make sure.

Well if the hair around it is coming off it could be allergies or even worse my dog long time ago did have a form of aids and his nose was crusty and dry with a lump in the Beginning and it spread so we put him down as not to have him suffer the vet said there was no more they could do. But remember my dog was like 3 when we found it. But maybe he just got a boo boo. I got my fingers crossed and wishing you the best.

my dog has problems like that, he has had two cysts in his lifetime on his back and had to get them surgically removed. I don't know if your dog has the same problem and I don't want to scare you but if it develops into a bigger, rounder bump and starts to kind of puss and bleed I would take him to the vet. but if it's small and isn't that bad I would just leave it and watch it carefully over the next few days and if it gets worse he should go to the vet right away.
My dog that gets these cysts still has that problem and there are two more small ones developing on his face they are small round scaly looking things and occasionly bleed. I hope he won't need them to be removed again because last time our first vet wasn't going to remove them since he has a heart murmer and is 15 years old.

It could be what the last person said and it could also be a wart. Take ur puppy to the vet to get it checked. Reather be safe then sorry right?

yer i have a shitzue as wel and it got a lump on its head the vet said that its just a bump on it s head give it antibiotics and it will go away in no time

It could just be a bit of dry skin - it sometimes forms a lump and falls off - but take him/her to the vet just to be certain.

sounds like a healing bite from a liter mate, they can get scabs with hair growing out of them......
also maybe a flea bite. shih-tz can be prone to sensitive skin and allergies.... if it doesnt look irritated. Leave it alone.

its probobly just a bug bite my puppies got that to so just calm down and washit than wait for a couple of days if it doesnt clear up take (them)?(it) to the doctors it should be fine.

sounds like a tic bite? that happened to my samme some years ago. we treated it with triple antibiotic cream . and a visit to the vet as well
