Real 4 Leaf Clover

When I was 8 years old, I found a 4-leaf clover in Flushing Meadow Park, Queens, New York. It took nearly 4 hours of hunting. I put the precious charm in the pages of my favorite book. I looked at it often until it finally disintegrated in my hands one day. HORROR!

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the highest number of leaves found on a clover has been 18. It has been estimated that there are approximately 10,000 three-leaf clovers for every four-leaf clover.

If I was the one looking for one, I'd say they're few and far between. However, my mom would find four or five while standing around talking. Oddly enough, as she had passed away some years ago. My girlfriend and I found a patch of clover, and I was telling her about my mothers gift of finding the little four leaf oddities. Well neither one of us could find a single four leaf clover. Much to our surprise, when we got home and kicked off our shoes, Wendy found a four leaf clover stuck to the bottom of her shoe. Over the next two days, a total of four, four leaf clovers found Wendy. I think my mom sent them to tell me some thing.

They are rare, and there is a lot of difficulty in finding them because of how the plant grows. A lot of the time when you think you have found one you move the adjoining leaves away and find that it only has three leaves. I read once that a field of clover was harvested and inspected and that the ratio of regular clovers to four leaf clovers was approximately 1 in 10,000. (The actual number was a bit higher but I don't remember it)

They can be rare in a patch of 3-leaf clovers. However, I had a front yard that was just full of 4-leaf clovers! I wasn't lucky tho; I wish!

1 in 10,000. Now the 5 leaf clover is even more rare. About 1 in 100,000.

I can find one in my yard almost every time I take the time to look. What's really cool is when I find a five leaf clover. I find one of those about once a year.
